Commission ProcessInitially I would like to meet you to discuss exactly what your requirements are. I will show you examples of bronze surface finishes (patination) that can be achieved. It is an opportunity to meet one another and for us both to become comfortable with the task ahead. The work itself:At this initial meeting we can discuss all aspects of the work, such as your sitting requirements, what expression you wish to be captured, costs, size of work, type of base, finish of bronze, delivery dates and travelling expenses etc. ContractEverything discussed is drawn up into an informal contract so that you can refer to it and make sure that everything discussed has been noted. The contract can be in the form of a letter or a more formal contract that I will send you outlining what was discussed at our meeting, together with a final quote for the finished work. When you feel comfortable with all the details, the contact can be signed. Should you decide to go ahead, the modelling sessions will begin. If you decide not to go ahead with the commission at this stage there is absolutely no commitment. I only ask that you cover my basic travelling expenses. PaymentI will not ask for payment until the modelling process is complete and all are happy with its likeness. There is no obligation to pay until you are happy with the work. When the modelling is complete and all are satisfied, a payment of half of the total is due, with the balance being paid upon receipt of the finished piece. SittingsMost clients favour sittings in their own home. This involves choosing a well lit room with space to place the modelling stand. There is no need to keep absolutely still. If you want to read or watch the television, drink a mug of tea or coffee, please feel free. Movement helps me to get a better likeness. Sittings will take up to six hours of your time. They can be divided into six one hour sessions or three two hour sessions. I will need to take a series of measurements to ensure accuracy and I will use photographs to work form in my studio to make sure you needn’t work too hard during the process. I welcome you and your family’s opinions as to the resemblance at each stage of the sittings. This helps ensure that everyone is happy with the progression of the work. Once the sittings are completed, the work is ready to progress to casting. At this stage you will be invoiced for the first payment of half the total value of the commission. CastingYour sittings are over and the work is ready for casting. This can take up to 90 days depending upon the schedule of the bronze casting foundry. DeliveryHaving chosen the patina (colour) and the type of base suitable for the bronze, the work is now ready for delivery. Preferably this is by hand or possibly by insured parcel post. Written maintenance instructions are included with the work. The ProcessMould making:is done by a renowned and trusted technician who will ensure that all details of the work are perfectly captured. Bronze:Bronze castings and patination are undertaken by a professional bronze foundry and are overseen by the artist to ensure the clients’ requests are fully met. Bronze-Resin:is polyester resin saturated with bronze dust giving a highly durable and quality imitation of genuine bronze. The bronze-resin castings are so effective that they can easily be mistaken for the real thing. Children’s PortraitsWith young children, sittings will be limited to shorter periods. It is common to have three short sittings over a morning. The use of photographs help greatly to reduce the number of sittings required. Price ListPrices vary according to scale and complexity. The total sum payable is written into the contract. | Bronze | Bronze Resin | | Head and neck | £6000 | £4000 | | Head with shoulders | £6500 | £4500 | | Head with torso | £8000 | £6000 |
